Jay Eddings pitched for four seasons in the minors and then became a scout.

Eddings was undrafted out of college and signed with the Chicago Cubs. He was 2-10 with two saves and a 4.62 ERA for the 1987 Wytheville Cubs, leading the Appalachian League in defeats. He improved to 2-4, 2.87 with two saves for the 1988 Charleston Wheelers. In '89, he pitched for Charleston (2 R in 9 1/3 IP) and the Peoria Chiefs (3-3, 11 Sv, 1.20, 8 BB in 75 IP, forming a potent bullpen combo with Heathcliff Slocumb). He split 1990 between Peoria (0-3, Sv, 5.25 in 8 G) and the Winston-Salem Spirits (2-3, 2 Sv, 3.89) to end his playing career. He had gone 9-23 with 28 saves and a 2.96 ERA in 139 games, with 161 strikeouts and 50 walks in 276 1/3 innings. Offensively, he was 1 for 9 with a run and a RBI.

Eddings coached in college for six years, four at the University of Arkansas. He began scouting for the Texas Rangers in 1998 and signed Blake Beavan, Preston Beck, German Duran, Craig Gentry and Chi Chi Gonzalez.
