Seminole State Belles Go 1 and 1 in Crowder Tournament

Historically the Belles go into the Crowder Tournament know that the competition will be tough. As suggested, the tournament did not disappoint. On Friday (November 16th) the Belles met the tournaments top ranked team, North Arkansas College. The Belles started out slow, only scoring 3 points in the first quarter. By halftime the Belles found themselves continuing to lag 24-34. The struggle continued into the third quarter. However, in the fourth quarter, Sophomore Jamie Clarke, who was 5 for 8 from the 3-point line (63%) provided the offensive boost the ladies needed. But the spark came too late as the Belles fell to North Arkansas 66-74. Leading scorers: Jamie Clarke 15 pts, Summer Jones 10 pts, and Khalan Richardson 10 pts.

The taste of defeat did not sit well with the Belles as they entered their second day of the tournament (November 17, 2018) against the tournament host, Crowder College. But as the 1st quarter ended, the Belles trailed Crowder 16-23. Although the Belles out-scored Crowder in the 2nd quarter, they still went into halftime down by three (35-38). However, the Belles caught fire as Jamie Clarke and Kinsey Callen’s three-point shooting helped to establish the lead at the end of the 3rd quarter. The Belles were able to extend their lead with pivotal free-throws made by Tra’Chael Quarles, Pamela Grover, and Victoria Vickers. The Belles ended the game victorious 84-77. Leading Scorers: Jamie Clarke 17 pts, Pamela Grover 13 pts, Kinsey Callen 12 pts, and Victoria Vickers 12 pts. Leading Rebounders: Tra’Chael Quarles and J’Sades Ainsworth both with 7. Khalan Richardson and Pamela Grover both with 6. The Belles will go into the Thanksgiving holiday with a record of 6-1. Upcoming event: Colin County Tournament, November 23-24, 2018 in Plano, Texas.
