Belles Win Big in Season Opener

The Belles burst on the scene as they sealed victories in their first two season openers at the Kilgore Classic (November 2-3, 2018). The firs victory came Friday night as the Belles found themselves down 26-34 against Kilgore College at halftime. Following halftime, sophomore Summer Jones three-point shooting and J’Sades Ainsworth extraordinary rebounding efforts soaked up the deficit, leaving the score tied 51-51 at the end of the third quarter. Sophomore point guard Tra’Chael Quarles then brought a spark of tenacious energy which led to numerous trips to the free throw line where she was 5 for 7 (71%). Final score was 71-59. Leading scorers: Summer Jones 18 pts, J’Sades Ainsworth 14 pts, and Tra’Chael Quarles 11 pts. J’Sades Ainsworth also led the team in rebounds with 11; sealing her first double-double of the season.

But the momentum continued as the Belles met their second opponent (Champion Christian College) on Saturday morning. This game started off with a bang as Summer Jones scored 18 points in the first 6 minutes of the game. At halftime the Belles led 54-21. Although their persistent defensive effort assisted, the 3-point shooting efforts of Kinsey Callen sealed the deal; as she led the team to their second victory with 29 pts. Final score: 108-56. Leading Scorers: Kinsey Callen 29 pts, Summer Jones 18pts, and Jamie Clarke 14 pts. Leading Rebounders: Hanna Pitman 11 and J’Sades Ainsworth 8. We would also like to commend the Belles on setting a record under the tenuis of Coach Story of “making 18 3pt shots in one game.” Way to go Belles!
