When the season started in August, the Trojans vowed to prove they could compete with the best, and so far they have not disappointed. With the 11th win of the year coming against Murray State, the ladies surpassed the win total of the first two seasons combined. They showed toughness and heart on Thursday afternoon to beat a gritty Murray State team by a score of 1-0. The defense was solid, as they have been all year, allowing just 0.38 goals per game which ranks them 4th in the nation and # 1 in the nation defensively with 9 shutout victories. The defense consists of Aubrey Adams, Riley Pfannenstiel, Dixie Anderson, Kanasa Spybuck, Daryian Fancher, Bianca Coleman, Giselle Longoria, and Taylor Sorrell.

Some early chances for the Trojans could not be converted, but the Trojans were still in control much of the first half. Even with possession, the Trojans only had four shots on goal. After halftime, the ladies ramped up the pressure and began to create chances totaling 11 shots in the second half. Two minutes into the second half the Trojans would find the only goal necessary for the win, when Giselle Longoria got in behind the goal keeper of Murray State and headed in a cross from Daryian Fancher. When asked about scoring the game winning goal, Giselle stated: “It felt good to come through for my teammates and get the win.”

The Trojans also picked up a win last Thursday against perennial power Northern Oklahoma College and a tie against Redlands on Sunday. The ladies sit in 3rd place of Region 2 at the moment with a chance to compete in the Region tournament waiting on the horizon. The Trojans have several away games left before they finish out their last home game of the season on October 18th.

Coach Daniel Hill stated: “We’re very proud of the effort and passion these girls have played with all season. We’re in a tight race for Region 2 play against some very good opponents and feel like this team has a chance to be special.”
