Full Name: John Dallas Green
The son of Dallas Green, pitcher John Green played in the minor leagues from 1985 to 1990, reaching as high as AAA.
He started his professional career by going 4-0 in 20 games for the Wytheville Cubs of the Appalachian League in 1985, and climbed slowly through the Cubs' organization, reaching AA Pittsfield in 1988. His father was the Cubs' general manager at the time, and John was never more than an organizational soldier, being used as long reliever and occasional starter. After his first year, his won-loss record was usually negative, although he did put up a few decent ERA's: 3.00 at Geneva in 1986, and 3.05 and 2.18 at Peoria in 1987 and 1988.
After the 1988 season, he followed his father to the New York Yankees organization, where John occupied a similar role. He finished 1989 with a strong performance for the Albany-Colonie Yankees of the AA Eastern League, going 2-1, 2.68 in 20 games, and in 1990 got his only taste of AAA action, with 2 games for the Columbus Clippers, for whom he did not surrender a run in 3.1 innings. He only pitched 7 games that season, the others being with Fort Lauderdale of the Class A Florida State League, which points to an injury. He retired from the game after that season.
