Seminole State College has announced that former Trojan Mack Chambers has been hired as the college's head baseball coach. Chambers, who is currently Assistant Coach at Broken Arrow High School, has previously held head and assistant coaching positions at Keys and Muskogee High Schools. Chambers played for legendary Trojan Coach Lloyd Simmons at Seminole in the early 1990s. He spent four years as a player at various levels with the Cleveland Indians organization. Chambers is co-founder of the Sandlot All-American Baseball organization and All-American Showcases, both based out of Broken Arrow. His teams at Broken Arrow High School have participated in the 6A State Tournaments in 2008, 2009, 2012, 2013, 2015 and 2016. He was named Oklahoma Baseball Coaches Assistant Coach of the Year in 2015. He also served as President of Green Country Baseball Coaches Association from 2005-2009.
SSC President Lana Reynolds said, "We are excited to be bringing a Trojan home to take the helm of our legendary baseball program. Coach Chambers is well-respected in the baseball community throughout the state of Oklahoma and beyond. There was a lot of interest in this position – a reflection of the quality program that has been built by former coaches and players, and supported by the college and community. I deeply appreciate the work of the search and advisory committees that spent many hours studying applications, interviewing candidates and reviewing references. We look forward to Coach Chambers continuing the winning tradition of Trojan Baseball and the reputation of building the character of young men on and off the field" Chambers said, "I am honored to have the opportunity to lead this great program and continue building on its tradition of success." The Trojan baseball program has produced over 200 players who have signed professional baseball contracts, with 43 of those playing in the major leagues. Over 300 Trojans have been selected in the MLB Draft. The Trojans have consistently been ranked among the top 15 teams in the nation. They have made 13 trips to the NJCAA national tournament – JUCO World Series – in Grand Junction, Colo., where they returned home as runners-up four times. Under the leadership of Interim Head Coach James Martin the SSC Trojans have a current record of 34 wins and 10 losses as of May 2nd, and a conference record of 21 and 6. The team will complete regular season play next week and begin post-season play in the NJCAA Region II Tournament in Woodward May 10-13. Chambers will begin his employment with Seminole State College on July 1, 2018.
